2013 AWARDS PRESS RELEASE

Sidetracks Art Gallery co-owners Ricky Godinez and Paul Murphy are pleased to announce the 2013 Artist Awards for their 7th Annual Naked in New Hope show.

 

Best in Show honors have been awarded to painter Martin Blender of Southaven, New Jersey, for his oil on canvas “Abstract 5” painted in 2 colors. Four Honorable Mention awards were bestowed on: Gay Malin of Delmar, New York, for her story-telling terra cotta and stoneware sculpture on slate, “Narrative 5”;  Campbell G. Paxton of Mentor, Ohio, for his entire new collection of classically inspired terra cotta works,, both free-standing and framed; Bill Wolak of Bogota, New Jersey, for his elegant collage “Other Hands Will Touch the Warmth”; and Larry Wood of Wayalusing, Pennsylvania, for his large drawing on patinated stainless steel, “Stripwork #13.”

 

The local Jury Panel for the above awards included Harriet Gratz of Gratz Gallery in Doylestown, Pennsylvania; sculptor and painter Jonathan Hertzel of Chalfont, Pennsylvania; and Jane Wesby of River Queen Artisan’s Gallery of Lambertville, New Jersey.

 

Other honorees:  Patrick Webb of Manhattan, for his oil on canvas painting, “Nightmare” and Thomas Murray of Edinburg, Texas, for his untitled oil on panel female nude with sinuous decorative background each received a Sidetracks Award; Jeanne Trivellini of Pineville, Pennsylvania received the Malachy Award for her oil on canvas painting, “Red Sea”; and Sean Turrell of Mt. Pocono, Pennsylvania for his strongly modeled salvaged tropical hardwood sculpture on steel base, “Male.” received the third annual Robin Larsen Award, named for the late founder and original guiding spirit of New Hope Arts.

 

A new prize, the Norma Holt award was bestowed on Phillip McLaughlin of Jamison, Pennsylvania for his cleverly conceived artist photo.  The late photographer Norma Holt, a Resident Gallery Artist since 2006 died in July of this year at the age of 94.  Her spirit strongly remains.

 

In 7 years, Naked in New Hope has presented the work of 315 artists – local, regional and national. The present Exhibit continues through Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Sidetracks Art Gallery and The “A” Space Gallery on the first floor of the New Hope Arts Center.
